National Trappers Southeastern Regional Convention And Sport Show Is Sept. 18-19

  • Wednesday, September 9, 2015

The National Trappers Southern Regional Convention and Sport Show will be held and be held on September 18-19th at the Cumberland County Fairgrounds. According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA), the event was last held in Newport, Tennessee in 2006-2007. Now in its 12th year, this event will draw diverse crowds and promises something for everyone.

Hosted by the Tennessee Fur Harvesters, the event will include live music, cowboy mounted shooting, world qualifying turkey calling contest sponsored by the National Wild Turkey Federation, an archery shoot and BB shoot for kids, trapping demos from famous world-class trappers, including alligator skinning and a fur trade era mountain man village. There will also be live and silent auctions as well as crafts.

“TWRA is always glad to be involved in events that preserve and educate about a large part of our American heritage,” said Wally Akins, TWRA biologist. “We plan on having a booth and hope folks stop by and visit. The trapping season is fast approaching."

"The goal of the event is not only to educate about trapping, but also to show the necessity of this tool to manage wildlife in urban areas,” said John Daniel, vice president of the National Fur Trappers Association.
