The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum hosted an event Saturday to officially loan its prized Steam Engine 349 to the Children’s Hospital at Erlanger. The engine should move to its new location sometime in 2017.

The event was a festive one that kicked off with a barbershop quartet singing "Santa Clause is Coming to Town."  Tim Andrews, president of TVRM, and Bruce K. Komiske, MHA, vice president New Hospital Design and Construction, both spoke at the event about the importance of inspiring children and encouraging the healing process.

Then came the main event: Erlanger’s Miracle Kids — PJ-Fox, Joel, Mia, Maximus, Ellie, Bailey, Roman, Joy, Tynece, Madiso, Adrian, and Anna —  unwrapped the gift tag stating that TVRM is loaning the steam engine to the new Children’s Hospital.

Also attending was Amelia Sullivan, president of the Erlanger Auxiliary,  the group responsible for raising the funds to relocate and build the housing facility for the steam engine.

“Trains are such a big part of children’s lives, and to put this in an institution that takes care of children and tries to make their life better, I think it’s just an incredible partnership,” Mr. Andrews said.
