Cartoonist Clay Bennett Speaks At Elder Scholars Meeting Dec. 13

Cartoonist Clay Bennett will speak on editorial cartooning at the Elder Scholars meeting Tuesday, Dec. 13, from 1-2:30 p.m. at the UTC University Center, Signal Mountain Room. 

Mr. Bennett, the son of a career army officer, led a nomadic life attending 10 different schools before graduating from high school in Huntsville.  He served as the editorial cartoonist for his college student newspaper and managing editor of the alternative student newspaper while attending the University of North Alabama.  He currently is on staff at the Chattanooga Times Free Press where he draws five cartoons a week. He is the recipient of The Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning and has earned almost every honor his profession has to offer, including the Sigma Delta Chi Award, the National Journalism Award, the Robert F. Kennedy Award, the United Nations/Ranan Lurie Award, the John Frischetti Award, the Overseas Press Club Award, and the National Headliner Award.   His work is distributed internationally and he was the Past President of the Assoc. of American Editorial Cartoonists.  

Membership in Elder Scholars is free to everyone over 55. Parking is free at UTC in Lot 7 at the corner of Douglas and East 5th Street or in the Fifth Street parking garage (high rise parking). When parking in either of these locations, place an Elder Scholars meeting flyer in the window of your car. 

Several meet at noon in the University Center for lunch together.  They will be in the corner over by the windows, near the door facing Vine Street.
