Children With Disabilities To Receive Adapted, Accessible Toys From Santa

  • Tuesday, December 13, 2016

With the help of Santa, Signal Centers, 109 N. Germantown Rd., Chattanooga, will host an Adapted Toy Giveaway for children with disabilities and their families from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Last month, volunteers purchased and switch adapted hundreds of toys for Signal Centers during Toyvention, an adapt-a-toy workshop.

“Come and get it!  Thanks to over 80 volunteers we have over 200 adapted free toys that need homes,” said CEO Donna McConnico.  “Many toys require fine motor control for activation and some children need a bit of help through an adapted toy with a larger switch. Every child deserves to play with a responsive toy this holiday season and we are happy to help Santa deliver,” she said.

Switch-adapted toys allow children with disabilities the opportunity to learn and play independently and interact with the environment.  With the addition of a switch and a little rewiring, switch adapted-toys are also a wonderful way to teach cause and effect.
