County Starting Planning On Adding Pinky's Point To Chester Frost Park

  • Wednesday, December 14, 2016

The county is launching a planing process to develop the 250-acre Pinky's Point on Lake Chickamauga as a tourist destination.

It would be added as a unit of Chester Frost Park.

County Mayor Jim Coppinger earlier called the remote property "a real gem" and said consultants will draw up plans on how it can be better utilized by local residents as well as visitors who contribute to the local economy.

A grant was secured that will pay half of the $40,000 planning cost. The county will pick up the remainder.

The planning will be carried out by PROS Consulting Inc. under a $39,920 contract.

It will include public meetings and discussion with key stakeholders.

County Mayor Coppinger said concerns have been expressed about the current narrow road to Pinky's Point. He said one purpose of the study is to develop better access.

He said a plan for the property needs to be in place before TVA will sign off on a long-term lease for the county.
