Paul Willis Whitehead, 83, died on Saturday, February 20, 2016after battling Parkinson’s for several years. He was a member of Ridgedale Baptist Church, the choir and Harvest Class.

Paul graduated from Central High in 1950, and was a trombone player in the Purple Pounders marching band. He retired from Dupont after 43 years of service.

Paul touched many lives and was a giving and caring person. He was a Family and Children's Services volunteer for the geriatric division. His passion was  helping people in need with no thought of anything in return. He won the Golden Hammer Award from FCS in 1994 for repairing homes and hearts. He was a special man, to whom God gave many talents, particularly creating beauty with his hands. He loved gardening and nature.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Ethel Whitehead; sisters, Ann Grout and Betty Whitehead; and brother, Claude Whitehead.

Survivors include his loving wife of 29 years, Myrna Daniels Whitehead; sister, Rose Dover; children, Jan Johnson (Mike); Nancy McGinnis (John); Doug Whitehead (Tessa); step-children, Billy Daniels (Linda); Desiree Daniels Disterdick; Trinka Bagby ("special" son-in-law Paul); 17 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Many thanks to the following: Mark Heinsohn, M.D. for his special care; Avalon Hospice; caregivers, nurses; "ministering angels" Becca, Becky and Krista; Matt Grimes, R.N. and Diana Hicks for their expert care; loving family and friends... you know who you are.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 23, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga 37421, with a celebration of Paul's life immediately following at noon. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memory Gardens-South with grandsons serving as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Volunteers in Medicine or Times Free-Press Neediest Cases.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, Franklin-Strickland-Pinkard-Bryan-Smith Funeral Directors, 423 265-4414.
