Dixie Gail Scott Massey died peacefully in her sleep and went home to be with her Lord on February 22, 2016.

Gail was born in Rossville, lived most of her life in Chattanooga and died in Nashville. She was a loving mother, a devoted daughter, a faithful sister, and a gracious friend.

Gail was preceded in death by her son, Mark Stephen Massey of Nashville, her parents, Hoyt and Lillian Scott, and her brother, Houston Scott of Rossville.

She is survived by her daughter, Melanie Massey Anderson (Joe) of Nashville, her son, Aaron Dale Massey (Amy) of Cedar Hill, TN, her granddaughters, Erin Anderson, Abby Anderson, and Emily Anderson of Nashville, Molly Massey Mailes and Olivia Massey, of Denver, her sisters, Ann Williams, Kay Janeway, and Debbie Bailey (David), and her brothers, Butch Scott (Bobbie) and Bobby Scott (Pat) and 12 nieces and nephews along with aunts, uncles, and cousins who were all so special to her.  Gail was blessed with a large family which meant the world to her.

Gail attended Rossville High School where she was the first female Drum Majorette. She married and had children and was a volunteer in the community. She served as treasurer of the East Brainerd Elementary School PTA, was an active member of Kosmos Women’s Club, was on the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brainerd Hills Club, and did modeling for the local department stores. She was head teller at American National Bank and Volunteer Bank and also served as a deposit manager. She worked for over 35 years and could tell a bank robber the minute he walked into her branch. She took care of anyone who needed help balancing their accounts and had a special calling for the elderly. She led outings for the elderly to lunches, movies etc. She also attended First Presbyterian Church; she had a strong faith and believed in the power of the prayer.

Gail loved her granddaughters with all of her heart and spent as much time with them as possible. She always had a smile on her face and in her last years was the favorite of all of her caregivers. She was kind and could always focus on the bright side. She often said, “this too shall pass” and she was always right.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Tim Tinsley officiating. Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Condolences may be sent to www.lane-southcrestchapel.com.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 12-2 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
