Reed, Oscar Thomas (Jasper)

Gunnery Sgt. Oscar Thomas Reed, 83, of Jasper, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, February 3, 2016. 

 

The son of the late Joseph Allen and Rebecca Lawson Reed, he was a retired gunnery sergeant in the US Marine Corps, having served in both Korea and Viet Nam during his 21 year military career.  A native of Jasper, he was a graduate of Marion County High School and received an associate’s degree from Chattanooga State.  He was a member of Jasper First Baptist Church, and was the former post Commander for VFW Post 6362 in Jasper.

 

Mr. Reed is survived by his wife, Hiroko Reed of Jasper, three daughters, Kimberly (Joel) Colston, Kathy (Mark) McGowan, and Karin (Michael) Kirk, all of Jasper; two sisters, Margaret Moore of Jasper and Wilma Craven of Evansville, TN; two brothers, George Reed of Pikeville and Jerry Reed of Jasper; six grandchildren, J. Adam Colston, Jeremy A. Colston, Rebecca Brummett, Sarah McGowan, Thomas McGowan, and Kendall Austin Kirk; and two great-grandchildren, Madison Colston and Aedan Brummett; and several nieces and nephews.

 

The family will receive friends at Rogers Funeral Home in Jasper on Friday, Feb. 5, from 5-8 p.m. Central Time.

 

Funeral services will be conducted at the Chapel of Rogers Funeral Home on Saturday, Feb. 6, at 2 p.m. Central Time with Reverend Kriss McGowan and Mark Craven officiating.  Interment will be in Sequatchie Valley Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Sequatchie Valley Honor Guard.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Jasper VFW Post 6362, PO Box 294, Jasper, TN 37347 or to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.
