Hamilton County Department of Education interim superintendent Dr. Kirk Kelly announced on Wednesday the appointment of Jill Levine to the newly-created position of chief academic officer. This will be an associate superintendent level position. In the role of chief academic officer, Ms. Levine will oversee curriculum and instruction as well as school operations.
"Ms. Levine brings more than 24 years of experience in public education, and has a proven track record of leadership in building teams and transforming schools," said Dr. Kelly. "I am confident that she will be an asset as we work to ensure that all students in Hamilton County have access to an outstanding education."
Principal of Normal Park Museum Magnet, Ms. Levine spent last year in Washington, D.C. serving as the first principal ambassador fellow for the Department of Education. Prior to becoming a principal, Ms. Levine taught third grade in the New Orleans Public Schools for five years through Teach for America. She also taught first grade in Chattanooga and served as an assistant principal at Calvin Donaldson prior to becoming a principal.
"I am honored and excited to join Dr. Kelly's team and to be part of the change that our system needs and deserves," said Ms. Levine. "I believe in the people in our district, and I know the best is yet to come for our students and this community."
Ms. Levine will officially start in her new role as chief academic officer on May 9. Dr. Kelly added that this is the first of several appointments he intends to make in the coming weeks.
