James Turnage
James "Jim" Lewis Turnage, Jr., 90, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2016.
Jim served in the United States Navy for over 10 years, where he served during World War II and the Korean War. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Florida where he was in the Signal Alpha Epsilon Fraternity and a member of the Track and Swim teams. A resident of Chattanooga for 50 years, Jim was an avid tennis player at Manker Patten, and was one of the founding members of the original Sports Barn. Further, he loved Florida Gator football.
Jim worked as an industrial engineer with E.I. DuPont Company for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Patricia H. Turnage, sister, Lucile Hemann, father, James L. Turnage, Sr., and mother, Lucile T. Turnage.
Jim is survived by his two daughters, Alice C. Turnage, of Hixson, and Margaret T. Jones, of Arlington, Va., grandson, Gabriel T. Jones of Arlington, and daughter-in-law, Carol A Roy of Arlington.
The family will receive friends from 10-11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church on Friday, May 6, with a funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. on Friday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, with Reverend Quinn Parman officiating.
Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
