Donald Thomas Chambers, 59, of Red Bank, died on Saturday, April 30, after a valiant battle against lymphoma which he fought with grace, dignity and ferocity.

Don leaves a legacy of love for family, friends, Red Bank athletics, Alabama football and his dog Molly. He graduated from Brainerd High School in 1976 where he played football and was a 37-year employee of Provident/UNUM. He was an officer and volunteered with the Volunteer State Rescue Squad for many years. Don helped coach virtually every baseball team his son Alex ever played on, kept stats and other volunteer duties for Red Bank football while Alex played there; his booming voice of support for Red Bank teams can probably still be heard around the Lion’s baseball diamond. And Don could routinely be heard two houses away whenever The Crimson Tide scored a touchdown or made a great play.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Winfred Chambers and Wilma Ruth Chambers; sister, Doris Faye Chambers and step-brother Lynn Chambers.

He is survived by Robin, his wife of 26 years, and son Alex, of whom he was so very proud. Survivors also include his uncle, Robert F. Horner of Tuscaloosa, cousins, Sherry (Paul) Beggs and Darlene (Bill) Wood of Atlanta, Dan (Jane) Fulghum of Chattanooga, Lynette (Joseph) Ritvalsky of Pennsylvania, Larry (Debbie) Stone of Chattanooga and Mark (Liz) Horner of Virginia; sister-in-law, Renee Chambers of Chattanooga; step-brother, Jay Chambers and step-mother, Jan Johnson of Chattanooga. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and special family friends, Rhonda Edwards and Brianna Whitlock.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Michael Stipanov, his staff and to nurse Amanda Conwill whose compassion and care made his tough times with cancer as comfortable as possible.

The family will receive friends at Lane Funeral Home on Ashland Terrace Sunday from 4-7 p.m. and during the noon hour preceding a 1 p.m. funeral service on Monday, May 2, officiated by the Reverend Jimmy Fowler.

Instead of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Red Bank High School football or baseball programs, Alpine Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Arrangements are by Lane Funeral Home 601, Ashland Terrace, 877-3524.
