Chattanooga State Music And Theatre Presentations Include Fiddler On The Roof

Chattanooga State’s Fine Arts Department presents a mix of music and theatre productions during April and May to wrap up the spring 2016 semester. All events are held the C.C. Bond Humanities Theatre and are free and open to the public unless otherwise noted. 

The classic musical Fiddler on the Roof, with music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, and book by Joseph Stein will be presented on April 8, 9 and 10. Chattanooga State welcomes special guest artist Greg Glover from WRCB Channel 3 News to play the role of Tevye. The production will feature members of the Chattanooga State student body, alumni, faculty, and staff, as well as youth from the Signal Mountain Playhouse. This production will be directed by Jennifer Arbogast, choreographed by Lindsay Fussell, and stage-managed by Bridgett Bryant. Fiddler on the Roof will be presented by special arrangement and license with Music Theatre International. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for students, or free for Chattanooga State faculty, staff, and students.  

An evening of great Jazz standards under the musical direction of Jay Stanfill will be presented by the Chattanooga State Jazz Band on Monday, April 11, at 7:30 p.m. One week later on Tuesday, April 19, enjoy an evening of beautiful choral music at 7:30 p.m. by Chattanooga State students and faculty. 

The Theatre Department Capstone Project takes the stage on April 22, 23 and 24 featuring final productions for graduating students of the Professional Acting Training Program. On April 22 and 23 productions begin at 7:30 p.m. while the Sunday, April 24, production, begins at 2:30 p.m. 

Vocal works accompanied by piano will be presented on Monday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. featuring Dr. Jennifer Arbogast, soprano, and Dr. Alan Nichols, piano. The recital will feature favorites from the classical and musical theatre repertory, including works by Mozart, Schubert, Puccini, Whitacre, Menken, and other great composers. The following evening, on April 26, a Student Applied Recital will feature students of voice and applied instrumental study beginning at 7:30 p.m. 

Rounding out the month, enjoy “An Evening of 10-Minute Plays,” on April 29 and April 30 at 7:30 p.m., featuring first year students in the Professional Actor Training Program.  *Some plays contain adult content and language and are not appropriate for children. 

The Lindsey Betts Piano Recital will be Sunday, May 1, at 2:30 p.m. Lindsey is a candidate for the Associate of Fine Arts degree in music. She will present a recital of solo piano music by Haydn, Chopin, and Griffes, and will be assisted by the Chattanooga State woodwind ensemble. 

Students in fine arts classes continue to exhibit their drawings, paintings, and photographs throughout the semester in the Center for Advanced Technology and Tennessee College of Applied Technology student galleries as well as in the Donald F. Andrews Reading and Writing Center.
