Tennessee Wildlife Resource Agency biologist Ben Layton told members of the County Commission on Wednesday that there will not be a hunt at the Enterprise South Nature Park this year.
He said prior hunts, beginning in 2010, had sufficiently thinned the herd.
Mr. Layton said a hunt could be held next year, however. He said they may be held every two years in the future.
There was controversy when the first hunt at the nature park was announced, but it was authorized when the TWRA found an over-population of deer and said that could cause vehicle-deer accidents. They said it was not healthy for the deer when there is an over-abundance for a limited area.
Some 50 deer were taken in two hunts the initial year.
Wounded Warriors took part in one hunt in 2013.
In 2015, only the Hickory Valley portion of the expansive park - away from the main public area - was hunted.
Also at the County Commission, the panel approved the purchase of 210 new Glock handguns. They will replace guns that are around 18 years old, it was stated.
The guns, which cost $409 each, will also be furnished to new correctional officers at the jail as they are hired. In the past, the correctional officers have had to buy their own weapon.
They will not get to keep the Glocks when they leave the force.
