Charge Dismissed Against Ooltewah High Assistant Basketball Coach Of Failing To Report Rape

  • Wednesday, May 25, 2016

Charges against Ooltewah High School assistant basketball coach Karl Williams of failing to report a rape incident involving the team at Gatlinburg have been dismissed.

The dismissal was based on his voluntary status as a coach and the fact that he was not provided any training in mandatory reporting, attorney Johnny Houston said.

The Hamilton County Grand Jury last week indicted Ooltewah boys’ basketball coach Andre Montgomery on four counts of failure to report child sexual abuse.

The charges stem from the rapes of four freshmen during a basketball tournament in Sevier County the week of Dec. 20, 2015.

Failure to report child sexual abuse is a Class A misdemeanor and carries a sentence of up to 11 months, 29 days behind bars.

Montgomery, who was the head boys basketball coach, has been suspended from school.

Earlier, athletic director Jesse Nayadley was given pre-trial diversion with the agreement that he perform 10 days of community service and take a class on mandatory reporting within 90 days.
