Time To Target The Criminal

  • Wednesday, June 29, 2016

While we are in the mood to give up our constitutional rights, why not go after a few in our justice system that protect the criminal and not restrict the law-abiding gun owner?  I for one would be more agreeable to keeping some of these killers off the streets.

I gladly welcome TSA screening at the airport, I am pleased when they ask me for an ID at the bank even though I have been in hundreds of times.

In the aftermath of Mothers Day weekend in Chicago, one of the bloodiest weekends in history in a city with some of our toughest gun laws, Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the department was going to implement "targeting".  The targeting would not be by demographics but by prior offenses.  It seems that all of those involved in the shootings had prior offenses.  Ten of the those had between 20 and 41 prior offenses of increasing levels of violence.  All of the shooters and victims were on a Chicago Police Department watch list.

More than once I have read articles in this newspaper that identify shooters who are out on bond or on parole for previous shootings. The problem is not with guns.

As for those who do not like guns and don't want to be around guns, you have the option to not buy one.
