Sass, tears, and southern charm take the stage when Dalton Little Theatre presents playwright Mark Dunn's comedy, “Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain.” The play opens Thursday, June 16 and will run for two weekends only.
Set in the break-room of a small Mississippi bank, the play follows the lives, loves, and losses of five bank tellers over six consecutive weekday mornings as they share laughter and tears over lots of hot brewed coffee. Whether they are dealing with broken arms or broken hearts, the tellers find strength and self-respect through the friendships of those who have been down the same road.
“People should come see this show because they have either gone through, are going through, or know somebody in these situations,” said Ron King, director.
He adds, “It is funny, it is serious, it is full of southern charm.”
Mr. King has become familiar with the southern charm of Dunn's plays as he has directed four of the five works of the playwright that DLT has produced consecutively in as many years.
“Over the past few years, I have developed a close friendship with the author,” said Mr. King. “Mark has seen two of his plays staged at DLT, the most recent being the world premier event last season of “Happily Ever After, a Wedding Comedy” which was recently picked up by a publishing company and all the local talent will forever be in print.”
The actors and actresses who performed in the premier of “Happily Ever After” will have their names printed in the playbook as members of the play's premier cast along with DLT as the venue. Next season, DLT is set to premier another of Dunn's plays giving local talent another opportunity to be a part of a world premier event.
Of Dunn's plays, DLT has also produced “Belles,” “Cabin Fever: A Texas Tragicomedy,” and “Sand Pies and Scissorlegs.”
“Five Tellers Dancing in the Rain” premiered at Theatre on Broadway in Denver, Co. on June 25, 1993 and opened in New York City at the Thirteenth Street Repertory Company on November 12, 1993. The play is produced in cooperation with Samuel French.
The cast includes Vicky Quinn as Dolores Bogatin, Amanda Havelin as Betina Embree, Katie Johansson as Twyla Tobias, Nikki Sloan as Lorene Lee, and Alana Sane as Jennifer Duck. Corbin Sloan offers his talents as stage manager and Macaven Kalifut will be working the lights and sound.
Production dates are June 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, and 25 at 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee June 19 at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at
