The Master Gardeners of Hamilton County (MGHC), in association with the University of Tennessee Extension, add to their outreach programs with free monthly gardening classes open to the public. On Saturday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to noon, the topic will be “Hydrangeas” presented by master gardener Carol Mathews. MGHC classes take place at the UT Extension, Agricultural Service Center, 6183 Adamson Circle, located off Bonnie Oaks Drive.
Carol Mathews comments, “Hydrangeas are an eye-catching sight in the garden and a welcome sign that summer has arrived.
What yard is complete without at least one magnificent hydrangea? These elegant, long-lived flowering shrubs come in an enticing range of whites, pinks and blues, as well as a variety of petal arrangements from huge and puffy to flat and almost saucer shaped. Hydrangeas will tolerate almost any soil and are an excellent choice for a range of landscaping sites from full sun to part shade in group plantings, shrub borders, or containers. Producing gorgeous blooms from mid-summer through fall (when many shrubs have completed their show), hydrangeas also make excellent cut flower arrangements. Come along and learn about the different kinds and the right place to put them. And find out which one you can’t live without!”
