Wes Gosselin
Chattanooga Mocs rising senior Wes Gosselin had an outstanding 2015-16 season. The accolades continued this week with the release of the Golf Coaches Association of America Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar squad.
Gosselin is the first Mocs golfer to earn his spot on the team since Stephan Jaeger in 2012. Jaeger (2011, 2012) and Derek Rende (2009, 2010) are the only other UTC golfers to claim the honor.
He is one of 212 NCAA Division I student-athletes to earn the award.
It requires a player competes in a minimum 50 percent of his team’s competitions while posting a 76.00 stroke average or better and maintaining at least a 3.2 grade point average.
“Very proud of Wes,” coach Mark Guhne shared. “He had a fantastic year for us, and he’s gotten better every year. His fantastic work ethic is equal on and off the course…just a phenomenal student.
“His future is very bright in golf and in life.”
Gosselin led the Mocs in scoring average with the fifth-best mark in school history tallying 72.37 shots per 18. His 21 par or better rounds over the season was one off Jaeger’s school-record 22 in 2012.
He set new personal bests for eagles (3), birdies (129), pars (417) and fewest others (22) in a campaign. There were top numbers over 18 holes for score (66) and birdies (tie-7). He had 10 or more birdies in seven events with a career-high 17 en route to a career-low 9-under par total of 209 at the Furman Intercollegiate. He also shot 209 (-1) at the Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate.
Gosselin was an All-SoCon pick. He led the team in seven of 12 events shooting par or better in six events.
