Velma Mae Willis Johnson, 71, died peacefully at home on June 27, 2016, surrounded by family. 

She was born August 13, 1944 in Birmingham. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Estelle Mae Willis; six siblings.

Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Willie Johnson; eight children; 24 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two siblings. Velma’s favorite saying, she was “a little piece of leather well put together”.

Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, in the chapel. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service.

Arrangements are by John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.
