Mother Nature stood idly by as the United Crate Racing Alliance rolled into Marvin Ford's Fort Payne Motor Speedway for Round #9 of the 2016 $15,000 Championship season. Tire R' Us of Cedartown presented the night's Crate Late Model action as 25 teams from Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee took to the 3/8's mile clay banked oval near Rainsville.

Polesitter Jamie Perry of Ringgold, Ga., earned his second UCRA victory of the season collecting the $2,500 prize. Perry previously won on the tour June 10th at Tri-County Racetrack in Brasstown, N.C.

The second-year tour ran its ninth event, with just two remaining this season. Caution appeared a handful of times, most notoriously on lap 12 when John Ownbey attempted to overtake leader Perry on a restart.  The result ended Ownbey's night and produced an identical caution the very next attempt to restart when Kasey Hall attempted the same maneuver. Hall collected a gaggle of cars in turn one including the McCarter boys and Chase Walls.

Previous weeks (FPMS) Crate winner Tanner Works of Cleveland, Tn., was strong like Perry but fought back current UCRA points leader Rusty Ballenger and Kenny Kizzar. In the end Perry's #P4 "Cotton's Service Center, Secoa Technology, NiB-One and Mark Heatherly Construction" sponsored Longhorn Chassis was too stout winning by over a half a straight-away. Jason Welshan of Maryville, Tn., started 10th and finished fourth just ahead of Kizzar.

The next UCRA event is in three weeks at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tn., on Saturday, Sept. 17. Pisgah, Ala., racer Lucas Burns won the Super Late Model 30 lap $1,000 feature race.
