Veach, Lester William "Bill" Jr. (Cleveland)

Lester William “Bill” Veach, Jr., of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away Sunday August 21, 2016.

Bill was the son of the late L.W. Veach, Sr. and Ruth Spry Veach; and was also preceded in death by his sisters Nancy Ann Veach Cook and Betty Sue Veach Williams.

Bill’s life was touched by many people and those who were touched by him all knew him as a kind, gentle, loving person who loved to give hugs. He never hesitated to tell someone he loved them. Bill and his wife Cynthia have been long time members of First Baptist Church in Cleveland. He served as Corporate Treasurer for the church starting shortly after he retired in 1991.

He began working with Owens Illinois in Spencer NC in 1960, he and his family later were transferred to a facility with the same company to Great Abaco, Bahamas. After almost 4 years there he then came to Cleveland to be a part of a new ground up Corrugated Box manufacturing plant. Prior to him retiring it was bought out and the name was changed to Georgia Pacific as it is today. Bill was very active and stayed busy with Church, family and friends, and exercising at the gym with his trainer Kim. You would often see him, or know he was going to Countryside or Kevin Brown’s to eat. They were his favorite.

On Aug. 8 it was a normal day of his duties at church, exercising, and then going home to get Cynthia for a late lunch. At approximately 2 – 2:20 that afternoon he was rushed by ambulance to Tennova Hospital where after the care in the ER spent the next 13 days in SICU. The family wants to extend a very special thank you for all the loving, and caring people who quickly became a part of our lives while working tirelessly to help Dad recover. We feel like other than God’s hands he could not have been better taken care of. Thank you!

Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Cynthia Veach; his son David Carlisle Veach and his wife Cindy; his grandson David Austin Veach; his brothers Johnny Veach and his wife Patsy and Gene Veach and his wife Cathy both of Mocksville, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

A Remembrance of Life Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday Aug. 25 at First Baptist Church in Cleveland with Pastor Jim Gibson officiating. The interment will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday Aug. 27 at Rowan Memorial Gardens Hwy 601 N, Salisbury N.C. 28144, with Pastor Brad Cunningham officiating.

The family will receive friends Thursday, Aug. 25 from 4-6 p.m. at First Baptist Church.

Bill’s family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in Bill’s honor to the American Heart Association and or First Baptist Church, PO Box 2368, Cleveland TN., 37320.

Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services in Cleveland has charge of the arrangements.
