Johnnie Humberd, 86,  of Cleveland, Tennessee, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the family residence surrounded by his family. 

He was a retired supervisor from Bowater after 40 years of service.  He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church where he served on various boards and was very active in the Holston Conference. He was involved in the Boy Scouts. Johnnie was passionate about being a lay speaker for the Methodist Church.  He was a devoted and compassionate funeral director.

Johnnie was the son of the late Ernest F. Humberd and Nellie Marie Cathey Humberd; and was also preceded in death by his two brothers, E.J. Humberd and Paul Humberd; son-in-law, Danny Nerren; and brother-in-law, Robert Evans.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Barbara Humberd of Cleveland; son, Alan Humberd and wife, Pat; daughter, Debbie Nerren all of Cleveland; six grandchildren, Leah Gibson and husband, Josh of Jackson Hole, WY, Hilary Tinney and husband, Skylar of Chattanooga, John Nerren of Cleveland, Maggie Humberd of Cleveland, Kate Roden and husband, Steven of Chattanooga, and Nick and wife,  Kristin Darras of Clearwater, FL; two great-grandchildren, Emma Gibson of Jackson Hole, WY and Tinley Darras of Clearwater, FL; three more future great-grandchildren, Jack Tinney, Stella Roden and baby Darras; sister, Leola Evans of Cleveland; sister-in-law, Betty Humberd of Cleveland; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27 in the chapel of Ralph Buckner Funeral Home with Reverend Arris Cavender officiating. Special music will be provided by his friend, Doyle Mayton.  Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens with Steve Humberd, John Nerren, Josh Gibson, Skylar Tinney and Jim Hindman serving as pallbearers.  Honorary pallbearers will be the entire staff of Ralph Buckner, Fike and Higgins Funeral Homes.  A white dove release ceremony will conclude the service.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26 at the Ralph Buckner Funeral Home, who has charge of the arrangemnets.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made Holston Conference, PO Box 850, Alcoa, TN 37701, Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church Sack Pack Program, 3405 Peerless Road, NW, Cleveland, TN 37312, Hospice or the charity of your choice.
