Women's Golf Opens The Season On Monday

The 2016-2017 women’s golf season gets underway Monday through (Sept. 5-7) Wednesday at The Oaks Course in Covington.

Dalton State’s Lady Roadrunners will play in the SCAD Atlanta Fall Invitational, which will be held at the 5,802 yards, par 71 course. Nine women’s teams are scheduled to play in the tournament, sponsored by SCAD Atlanta.

“We are extremely excited to start the season,” said DS Women’s Coach Jim McGrew. “Qualifying has gone really well and the competition has brought out the best in everyone. It’s a long season, but this will give us a chance to guage where we are and hopefully we will play well.”

McGrew says five women will represent Dalton State in the opening tournament. They are Katie Dalton, Caroline Griffin, Isabel Rijos, Tia Teiniketo, and Haejin Choe. Dalton is a sophomore from Vidalia, Ga. Griffin is a junior from Sycamore, Ga. Rijos is a freshman from Columbus, Ga. Teiniketo is a freshman from Vihti, Finland by way of the Baylor School in Chattanooga. Choe is a Freshman from Live Oak, Fl.

The Roadrunners and Bees will be joined in the event by Faulkner (Al.) University, Campbellsville (Ky.) University, Point (Ga.), Union (Ga.), Reinhardt University (Ga.), Brenau University (Ga.), and Lindsey Wilson Ky.).

Dalton State is ranked No. 7 in the NAIA Women’s Golf Coaches Preseason Top 25. SCAD Atlanta is ranked ninth, Campbellsville is 17th. Faulkner is 23rd. Lindsey Wilson received votes.

Coach Ben Rickett’s Dalton State men’s team will open the season on Sept. 9-11 in the 2016 Carpet Capital Collegiate at The Farm golf course at Rocky Face, Ga.
