Vote Is 5-4 To Approve $750,000 City Settlement With Mays Construction Company

The City Council voted 5-4 on Tuesday night to approve a $750,000 settlement of litigation with Mays Construction Company.

In favor were Carol Berz, Russell Gilbert, Yusuf Hakeem, Jerry Mitchell and Chairman Moses Freeman.

Opposed were Chris Anderson, Larry Grohn, Ken Smith and Chip Henderson.

Councilman Anderson said he was opposed because he felt the construction firm should have foreseen certain conditions on a city Consent Decree sewage project in South Chattanooga and bid accordingly.

He did note that with the settlement payment to the firm that the project can finally be completed.
