Myrick Leads Mocs Over Radford 3-1

  • Sunday, September 11, 2016
University of Tennessee at Chattanooga junior Ellie Myrick (Knoxville, Tenn.) led the Mocs to a 3-1 victory over Radford Sunday afternoon at Finley Stadium. Chattanooga improves to 2-4-1 overall while Radford drops to 1-3 on the year.

After the Highlanders knocked in the Mocs’ first goal, Myrick’s corner kick found freshman Jordan Mueller in front of the net. She headed it in for her first collegiate goal to make it 2-0 in the Mocs’ favor at the 45:37 mark of the game. That would prove to be the game winner.

Myrick then got a goal of her own when she ran the field with freshman Hannah Torbett (Johnson City, Tenn.).
Torbett, running on the inside, sent a pass to Myrick on the left who knocked her shot past the Radford keeper in the 56th minute for a 3-0 advantage.

The Highlanders cut out the potential shutout with a goal by Jessica Wollman from Nicole Ray in the 64th minute for a 3-1 margin.

Chattanooga’s first goal was an own goal by the Highlanders, the Mocs’ second in as many games. Torbett had the ball inside the six-yard box and her pass across the box was deflected right into the goal by the Radford defender with just 12:43 gone in the match.

Two more chances by Chattanooga were well defended. Freshman Amber Brayer’s (Franklin, Tenn.) shot from just outside the box in the opening frame, was sailing high into the net when Radford keeper Courtenay Kaplan deflected the shot up into the underside of the crossbar. It came down on the line and her dive out of the net kept the Mocs from a sure score.

In the second half, freshman Kaylin Hermanutz (Edmonton, Alberta) gathered the ball on an offensive rush by the Mocs, at the top of the box in the middle. Her shot was stopped short by Kaplan. She had a team-high three shots with all three on goal. Mueller had two shots with both on goal.

Chattanooga outshot Radford 14-10 with 10 shots on goal. Katie Emig picked up her second win this season and had three saves.

The Mocs will close out the non-conference slate next weekend with a Friday match at Eastern Kentucky and then at Austin Peay Sunday afternoon. Follow the action at GoMocs.com.
