Mocs Tennis Team Competes In USC Upstate Fall Invite

  • Friday, September 16, 2016
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team kicked off its fall season at the USC Upstate Fall Invite in Spartanburg, S.C., today.  The Mocs went 2-1 in singles and 3-1 in doubles play on Day 1.

Sophomores Delaney Edwards and Sydney Patton led the way, posting two doubles wins to advance to the semifinals of the Green Draw.  They opened with a 6-4 win over Presbyterian and finished with a 6-3 victory against the host Spartans.  Edwards also had a nice singles win over Western Carolina's Madison Riley (6-0, 6-1).

Sophomore Carolina Hall started her UTC career in solid fashion, posting a (6-3, 6-2) victory against Armstrong State's Alice Patch.
Patch is a member of the defending NCAA DII National Champion Pirates.

"It was a great day!" stated UTC head coach Chad Camper, who also made his debut with the Mocs.  "Delaney and Sydney really stepped up and played great today in doubles and Delaney had a convincing win in singles.

"Caroline told me that was the toughest 6-3, 6-2 match.  I told them to be proud but we need the same intensity tomorrow to achieve our goals."

Sophomore Mckenzie Barco also had a win in doubles in a mixed duo with Campbell's McGraw.

Action continues tomorrow, so be sure to check back to GoMocs.com for complete results.
