Both Covenant cross country teams placed second at the fifth annual Mountaintop Invitational on Friday evening on Lookout Mountain.
Sewanee, competing in the event for the first time, collected team and individual titles on both the men's and women's sides. Jackson Goodwin came away with the men's title for Sewanee with a 5k time of 16:38, while Katie Jannotta was the women's winner with a two-mile time of 13:06.48.
The Covenant women placed four of its seven runners inside the top 10 for 39 total points.
Lilly Smith set the pace with her personal record time in the two-mile of 13:33, which was good for a second place finish overall. Margaret Fitch finished fourth with a time of 13:45, equaling her previous best time in the two-mile.
Hannah Samuels also set a personal best in the even with her time of 14:08 for a sixth place finish overall, while Anna Danek made her collegiate debut with a ninth place finish and a time of 14:58. Caroline Pepper rounded out the top five Covenant finishers with a time of 15:15 and a 13th palce finish.
The men also had a pair of runners set personal bests in the 5k. The Scots finished with 57 points overall and were led by Micah Sneller's time of 18:30.14, good for 10th in the event. Sneller's time was identical to his performance in last year's Invitational.
Nathan Bierema finished 12th overall with a career-best time in the 5k of 18:50, while Caleb Keitt placed 13th in his college debut with a time of 19:35. Phil Moore(20:40) and Caleb McKillop (21:01) finished 16th and 18th, respectively, to complete the top five for the Scots. Charles Taylor also set a personal best time after completing the course in 21:19 to place 21st overall.
