Alexander Says Democrats' Election Politics Are Putting Babies At Risk

  • Tuesday, September 27, 2016

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander on Tuesday said, “Senate Democrats’ election politics are putting babies at risk” after Democrats blocked bipartisan legislation to provide $1.1 billion to fight the Zika virus, along with funding to keep the government running through Dec. 9.

“It is beyond comprehension that after Democrats blocked $1.1 billion to fight Zika for three peak-mosquito summer months, Senate Democrats are once again blocking the bill because it does not include everything they want,” Senator Alexander said.

“How can they explain this to all the expectant mothers who lay awake at night wondering if one mosquito bite will forever change their families’ lives? Democrats need to get out of the way and let us protect American mothers and babies from Zika.”
