Jimmy Needham To Open Fall U-Church Series Sunday

  • Monday, September 5, 2016
Lee University’s fall U-Church series features a varied line-up that will offer students a chance to engage in meaningful, corporate worship. The monthly series will open with Jimmy Needham, followed by Planetshakers, and then close with “Come to the Table: An Evening of Worship.”

“We are thrilled to have Jimmy Needham as a first time guest at U-Church this semester,” said Josh York, director of U-Church. “We are equally as excited to welcome back Planetshakers, returning after their last U-Church visit four years ago.
It is exciting to see how this line-up has come together, leading into our own student-led ‘Come to the Table’ event in November.  We believe this entire season has something for everyone.”

Mr. Needham will be the opening performer on Sunday, Sept. 11.  A veteran Christian artist and blogger, Needham has had multiple hits including “Clear the Stage” and “The Reason I Sing,” but now is changing his message and sound: soulful, socially-conscious, faith-based pop songs with hints of blues and roots added enhance the style. When working on his newest album, “Vice & Virtue,” Mr. Needham had a revelation about the truth of his relationship with the Lord.

“My ‘nicety’ gave me a sense of worth and value, but that’s really the opposite of the gospel,” said Mr. Needham. “We bring nothing to the table but sin and brokenness.”

This confession led Needham to write honest songs about the reality of Christians and their faith, and he hopes to challenge his fellow Christians through his latest album.

On Thursday, Oct. 6, U-Church will welcome back Planetshakers. The band’s vision is to witness generations worldwide come together to praise God. They desire to see “true encounters with God that lead to lasting changes and global impacts.”

Planetshakers is based in Melbourne, Australia, and performs at Planetshakers Church. They perform annual tours to the United States, Europe, New Zealand, and other locations.

The fall U-Church season will conclude with the student-led event, “Come to the Table: An Evening of Worship,” on Sunday, Nov. 13.

“Come to the Table” is a unique worship event on campus that is designed and led by Lee students, according to York. Attendees encounter many diverse styles of student-led worship, including music by the Lee University Chapel Band, elements of spoken word, dance, art, and Communion. Every semester offers a new theme and experience, each with a guided vision to create an atmosphere of authentic, corporate worship.

U-Church is a free, non-ticketed event open to students, alumni, and the community. Seating is first come, first served.

Childcare is available for all who attend. Please contact Christie Wyatt at cwyatt@leeuniversity.edu for more information.
