The body of a Norris Lake boater who went missing in a cove near Sugar Camp Lane in Maynardville, Tn., has been recovered.

At about 6:40 p.m. on Monday, rescue crews recovered the victim’s body in about 46 feet of water.  The 71-year-old man from Anderson County went missing around noon after jumping into the lake from an anchored pontoon boat.  Witnesses onboard the boat say that the victim went under the water and never resurfaced.

Rescue crews from Union County and Knoxville joined TWRA in the search for the victim who was located by way of a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV).  TWRA officers located the victim’s body and divers from the Knoxville Rescue Squad made the recovery.  Since acquiring the unit a few years ago, approximately 27 boating incident victims have been recovered by use of the ROV.

TWRA Union County Wildlife Officer Rick Roberts is the lead investigator for TWRA and coordinated an autopsy request with Medical Examiner Dr.
Mark Holland.  The victim’s identity will be released Tuesday and the incident remains under investigation.
