Local Pharmacist Was World War II Veteran

Robert Allen Wheeler, 92, of Chattanooga, died on Thursday, January 12, 2017.

He was the son of the late G.W. Wheeler and Ella Mae Blankenship Wheeler.  Allen was a U.S. Marine, serving during World War II on the Midway.  He graduated from Howard College of Pharmacy in 1950 and was a local pharmacist for over 40 years.  Allen was also a former employee with Parke Davis, former member of Maple Grove Baptist Church and was currently a member of Grace Works Church.  He was an avid golfer until he was unable to play and charter member of Valleybrook.  Allen was a member of the Alhambra Shrine and member of the Legion of Honor.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fanny Rhea Womac Wheeler and a son, Donny Ray Wheeler.

Survivors include his children, Theora (Fred) Fuson, Ooltewah, Bobby Wheeler, Melbourne, FL,  Dottie (Starl)  Cantrell, Quebeck, TN, Jimmie (Carolyn) Wheeler, Knoxville, TN and Tim Wheeler; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Theo Womac; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Bill Owens officiating.  Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 16, and after 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at Heritage Funeral Home, East Brainerd Road.
