John Patitucci
Lee University will welcome John Patitucci, bass, and Jon Cowherd, piano, for the next installment of the Performing Arts Series on Monday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the Dixon Center.
Review for John Patitucci:
Mr. Patitucci has been at the forefront of the jazz world for the last 30 years and active in all styles of music. He is a three-time GRAMMY award winner, has been nominated over 14 times, and has played on many other GRAMMY award-winning recordings.
Mr. Patitucci has performed and recorded with jazz giants such as Chick Corea, Wynton Marsalis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Wayne Shorter, among others. Additionally, he has performed as a soloist with the Swedish Chamber Orchestra, the Estonian National Symphony, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and more. He has also been commissioned to compose for various chamber groups.
Mr. Patitucci currently serves as a visiting scholar at Berklee College of Music’s Global Jazz Institute and hosts an interactive online bass school. He lives in New York with his wife Sachi and their two daughters.
Review for Jon Cowherd:
Mr. Cowherd, an esteemed pianist, has spent time composing, arranging, and producing. He is best known for his long-time collaboration with drummer Brian Blade. They have worked together to record and compose pieces, as well as co-founding the Brian Blade Fellowship.
He has played with the New Orleans Ballet and the New Orleans Symphony and Opera. He studied at Loyola University and the Manhattan School of Music.
Mr. Cowherd recently released his first album, Mercy, with Mr. Patitucci on bass.
