Reuben Harrelson, 90, of Hixson, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017.

 

He was born in Andrews, South Carolina on March 8, 1927.  He graduated from The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina.  He entered service in the United States Army Air Corps and then served as a gunner in the United States Navy in World War II.  He then began a 40-year career with American Cyanamid Chemical Company where he retired from.  Most of Reuben’s life was in Chattanooga, after living in Valdosta, Georgia, Plymouth North Carolina, Springhill, Louisiana and Vancouver, Washington.  Reuben was a member of Hixson Presbyterian Church and a past member of Red Bank Presbyterian Church.  He was an avid fisherman.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, William Cleveland Harrelson; mother, Esther Ellen Harrelson; sisters, Talathia Napier, Marian Gambrell, Claudia Russell, Rachel Stearns; brothers, William Henning Harrelson, Cleveland Ernest Harrelson, James Donald Harrelson and John T. Harrelson.

 

Reuben is survived by his wife, Betty Harrelson; children, Karen Lorene Dockery (Victor) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Martin Reuben Harrelson (Sandy) of Signal Mountain, Marjorie Ellen Watson (Fred) of Dunlap and Angela Frances Rogers of Hixson;  three grandchildren, Samuel James Harrelson, Madison Hayes Rogers, and Charles Fred Watson, III

 

The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, December 1, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

 

Funeral services for Reuben will follow at 3 p.m. on Friday at the North Chapel with Herb Broadwater officiating. Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.
