She was born on Sept. 9, 1937, in Chattanooga. Gloria graduated from Howard High School and earned a BS in Biology/Chemistry from Tuskegee University.

After college she moved to New York City, and in 1969 married the love of her life, William Harding Ince (“Bill”). They welcomed to their union William Charles Ince and, together, raised him, and Bill’s sons, Rodger and Darryl.

For more than 20 years, Gloria worked as a chemist and clinical research associate at Becton Dickenson in Franklin Lakes, NJ.

Through the years, Gloria pursued her passions—science, the arts, travel, fashion, and meeting new people. To sit down with Gloria was to get a lesson in enjoying and savoring life to the fullest.

Gloria was a Golden Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and a Founding Member of the Bergen County Alumnae Chapter. She was a member of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bessie Jefferson Horton, her brother, Ernest E. Horton, Sr., and her husband, Bill.

She is survived by sons, William (Robyn) of West Orange, NJ; Rodger (Vanessa) and Darryl (Tania), both of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Tardifay Jackson of Chicago, and Doris C. Horton of Atlanta; a sister-in-law, Florence Boyd of New York, NY; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a wide circle of friends who will cherish her memory.

The Homegoing Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 17, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 118 Chadwick Road, Teaneck, NJ 07666. Interment will be in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the newly established Gloria E. Ince College Scholarship through the Bergen County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Please make checks payable to the Bergen County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. with “Gloria Ince Scholarship” in the memo, and send to the Chapter at P.O. Box 1225, Teaneck, NJ 07666.
