Prentice, James L. "J.L." (Birchwood)

James L. "J. L." Prentice, 92, of Birchwood, Tennessee, passed away early Friday morning, February 17, 2017 at the family residence.
 
Mr. Prentice was the son of the late Lizzie Knight Prentice and Robert Prentice; and was alsp preceded in death by his son-in-law, Michael Armour; and his brothers, Robert Prentice and Franklin Childs.
 
Mr. Prentice was a U. S. Army Veteran serving in Central Europe during World War II. He was the oldest living World War II Veteran in his community. He owned and operated Prentice Used Cars for many years. He enjoyed working on his farm and riding on his tractor. He also enjoyed going to flea markets. Mr. Prentice was of the Christian Faith.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Dorothy Childs Prentice of Birchwood; his daughters, Janet Armour of Kansas City, MO, Shirley Burger and her husband Teddy of Cleveland, Marilyn Bales and her husband Rodney of Birchwood and Carol Swafford and her husband Rick of Cleveland; his grandchildren, Randy Bales and his wife Casey, Jennifer McGlohon and her husband Jason, Corey Bales, Nicholas Bales, Laura Bales, Scott Burger and his wife Christy, Karen Partridge and her husband John, Daniel Armour and his wife Melissa and Adam Armour; his 10 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Vera Mae Pendergrass of Chattanooga and Catherine Myers of Georgetown; his brother, Raymond Childs and his wife Imogene of Lake City, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Monday, February 20, at 2 p.m. from the Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel with Reverend David Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the McInturf Cemetery with Randy Bales, Corey Bales, Nicholas Bales, Scott Burger, Daniel Armour and Jason McGlohon serving as casket bearers. Military honors will be given.
 
The Jim Rush Funeral and Cremation Services North Ocoee Chapel has charge of the arrangements.
