Geneva Downer, 79, of Resaca, Georgia, died on Monday February 20, 2017 at Hamilton Medical Center.
Geneva was born August 28, 1937 in Sparta, TN to the late James Simpson Hood and Rose Lee Rector Hood; and was also preceded in death by her husband, Johnny Doyle Downer; brother, Doyle Hood; and sisters, Mary Ruth Hudson and Margaret White.
Geneva loved tending to her flowers and spending time with her church family. She also found joy in doing puzzles. She was a member of Dalton Holiness Church.
Mrs. Geneva Downer is survived by her sons, Wendall and Jane Downer of Resaca, GA, Kenneth and Annette Downer of Emerson, GA, Gary Downer and Joyace Jones of Ellijay, GA and Johnny Downer of Savannah, GA; brother, James and Arlene Hood of Chicago, IL; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Geneva Downer will be held Monday February 27, at 2 p.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel, with Brother Edward Atchley officiating. Interment will follow the service at Fairview Cemetery, Hall Memorial Baptist Church.
The family will receive friends Sunday February 26, from 5-9 p.m. from Ponders Calhoun Chapel, who has charge of the arrangements.
