The Lee University Chamber Strings will present its annual spring concert, “Be My Valentine,” on Tuesday, Feb. 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Pangle Hall.

Chamber Strings is directed by Xiaoqing Yu, associate professor of music at Lee. The concert will feature Drs. Ron and Chery Brendel, voice professors, and Dr. Jose Ruiz on solo flute, along with various Lee students singing solos, the Voices of Lee, and a guest vocalist.

“Be My Valentine” will feature love tunes from well-known romantic operas as well as other Broadway and pop hits that suit the occasion. The songs originated in a variety of countries and will be sung in their original languages with English subtitles.

“It’s such a unique concert,” said Mr. Yu. “We hope you will come and celebrate love and peace with us. The ensemble offers a diverse cultural episode on Lee’s campus. To me, this Valentine’s Day concert is like a French dessert giving you just what you’ve been craving – something sweet!”

Chamber Strings will perform numbers such as “The Magical World of Pixar,” “Tango for Strings,” “Intermezzo,” “Tango of Roses,” and "A Thousand Years" from the Film Twilight, among others.

Music has been arranged by Alan Elkins, Logan Fox, YongEn Huang, and Ruiz.

Mr. Yu joined Lee’s School of Music in 2004 with worldwide performance experience, and he continues to serve as concertmaster of Greenville Symphony as well as teaching. He earned degrees from University of South Carolina, the Manhattan School of Music, and the Beijing Central Conservatory of Music.

The concert is a free, non-ticketed event, and is open to the public. All are invited to a reception immediately following the concert in Lee’s Communication Arts Building.
