Women's Army Corps Program Offered At The Chickamauga Battlefield On Saturday, March 18

  • Thursday, March 2, 2017

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, invites the public to participate in a 90-minute, one-mile historical hike at Chickamauga Battlefield on Saturday, March 18, at 10 a.m. This program will explore the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and its relationship to Chickamauga Battlefield. Visitors wishing to participate should meet at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center.

Throughout American history, women played a vital role in the nation’s war efforts.

During the Revolutionary War, the American Civil War, and World War I, women primarily served as nurses, yet some found themselves in combat situations. As World War II came, women wanted to do more than their predecessors because “this was their war too.” Chickamauga Battlefield played a major role in the involvement of thousands of women in the war effort and paved the way to ensure women would always be involved in the fight for freedom across this great nation and around the world.

As a reminder, supportive shoes, appropriate clothing for the weather, water, portable chairs and bug spray are recommended.
