UTC Golfers 11th At Furman Intercollegiate

  • Saturday, March 25, 2017
The Chattanooga Mocs men’s golf team is in 11th-place through the first 18 holes of the Furman Intercollegiate. The Mocs shot 3-over par 291 and is one shot behind Virginia Tech in 10th at 290.

Wes Gosselin led the way with a 1-under 71. He’s tied for 18th, but just two shots out of the top 5 overall. Stuart Thomas turned in a level-par 72. Etienne Brault is another shot back with 73, while Brooks Thomas had the final counting card with 75. Phillip Hickam’s 81 served as the drop score.

UTC entered three individuals as well with Andrew Weathers carding 73.
Lake Johnson shot 75 with Will Porter at 78.

Georgia Southern (279) holds a one-shot lead over No. 17 Clemson (280). Wofford is third with 281. GSU’s Brett Barron has the early individual advantage with a tournament-record 63 (-9).

“Wes, Stu and E played solid, but we didn’t get that low score," UTC head golf coach Mark Guhne said.  "It got windy in the afternoon making scoring harder. We didn’t play bad, but we didn’t play great either so we’re in the middle of the field. It’s out there [to score], we just have to go get it tomorrow.”

Gosselin has posted six straight par or better cards at Furman University Golf Club.
