Melva Cynthia Young, 62, of Chattanooga, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017, in a local hospital.   

A longtime resident of Chattanooga and formerly of Trenton, Ga., Mrs. Young was a self-taught artist and loved to travel, but her greatest joy was her children and grandchildren.

She was of the Baptist faith and was formerly co-owner of Lookout Auto Care.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jim” Young; sister, Debra Shirley, and parents, Melvin and Charline Simpson.

Survivors are her three daughters, Melissa (Tommy) Cates, Crystal Simpson, both of Chattanooga, and Dawn (Tony) Dabbs, Trenton; two sisters,  Alice Buchanan, Fort Oglethorpe, and Sheila (Chuck) Shoulders, Seattle; brother, Marty Simpson, Rossville; five grandchildren, Marcus Wheeler, Lauren and Owen Dabbs, Zach and Zoe Cates;  two great-grandchildren, Addy Green and Ayden Wheeler;  several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held on Monday, April 24, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, from 1-8 p.m. and Monday from 11 a.m.–1 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
