Construction To Begin On Chattanooga’s Miracle Field

  • Wednesday, April 5, 2017

The City Council on Tuesday approved the final agreement between the Miracle League of Chattanooga and the city of Chattanooga which paves the way for construction to begin on the Miracle Field Sports Complex and Playground at Warner Park.  Chattanooga’s Miracle Field will become one of more than 250 Miracle Fields worldwide that provides those with physical and mental challenges the opportunity to play organized sports, especially baseball, on a specialized surface that is safe for those with mobility issues.

John Germ, chairman of the board of directors for the Miracle League of Chattanooga, said, “This project is another example of Chattanooga’s public/private partnerships that is part of the fabric of our community.  With the city of Chattanooga’s allocation of the Warner Park location and the funding commitment of so many companies, foundations and individuals, we are happy to announce that we are able to build the entire proposed project including the multi-purpose field which was slated to be a second phase.  The multi-purpose field will lend itself to a multitude of sports and activities including Special Olympics events.”  Mr. Germ continued by announcing that contracts have been signed with GenTech Construction, LLC, who will be the general contractor, with PlayCore , Inc., who will build the playground, and with the YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga, who will manage the Miracle League and all of its activities.

Janet Dunn, president and CEO of the YMCA, said, “The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga is excited about partnering with the Miracle League to bring baseball to kids with special needs.  This program fits our mission well in meeting the needs of people who are underserved in our area.  The Y is an organization that is committed to youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.  The Miracle League program fits all of those areas of focus beautifully.   This truly is the collaborative effort of two organizations that exist to make a positive impact in the lives of people throughout the greater Chattanooga area. “

The Miracle Field Campaign is ongoing and welcomes both financial donations as well as volunteers who will be a vital part of the Miracle League’s success.  Bricks for the “Miracle Walk” are still available, and information on how to get involved can be found on the organization’s website:  www.MiracleLeagueChatt.com.
