The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's tennis team pulled out a 4-3 win at Mercer today. The Mocs improve to 3-2 in Southern Conference action while upping their overall record to 13-6.
With the match tied at 2-2, sophomores Mckenzie Barco and Delaney Edwards posted two wins to secure the team victory. Barco posted a tough 7-5 win in the first set, before cruising to a 6-1 win in the second, to beat Andrea Peteu at No. 6. Edwards followed that with a three-set win over Grace Korta at No.
2.
"Delaney Edwards really came up big today in singles by clinching the match for us," stated UTC head coach Chad Camper. "Though we won doubles point we got down quick in singles and it wasn't looking good. Then McKenzie Barco wins and that really turned the match around."
The Mocs opened the match by winning the doubles point. Edwards and sophomore Sydney Patton posted a 6-2 win at No. 2. Senior Rachele Gazzola and junior Samantha Caswell clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 1.
Sophomore Caroline Hall scored the other point for the Mocs today. She won her singles match at No. 4. UTC now travels to Wofford for a Sunday afternoon match.
