John was born in Chattanooga on June 29, 1946, to the late Wilburn George Cross and Jean Inez Reed Cross.  After serving his country in the United States Air Force, he worked as a journeyman electrician at Combustion Engineering.  He continued his education and proudly earned a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.  While working at Erlanger Hospital as the associate director of Engineering, John met and married his wife Linda.  They were happily married for 23 years.  His greatest joy came from spending time with his family whom he adored.
