Chattanooga Loses Part Of Its Soul

  • Tuesday, June 6, 2017
When one thinks of civil rights they think of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Medgar Evers, and many others. However, one man who many people do not think of is Booker T. Scruggs. Professor Scruggs had a number of titles in his lifetime. Just to name a few he was humanitarian, but a great pioneer in civil rights. He was also a great mentor to a number of people, a journalist, and a musician.

Professor Scruggs always had his door open and a chair ready for anyone who needed to talk to.
I always enjoyed and was honored to chat with him about Chattanooga history, civil rights history, and even jazz music. Yesterday I was shocked to read about his passing. He will be missed by his family, and his friends.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time. I will always rejoice that I had the honor of talking to him and meeting this great man. Professor Scruggs, it was a true honor meeting and chatting with you. You will be missed, sir.
