On Monday night, the Chattanooga Lookouts were defeated by the Jackson Generals 9-3. Despite losing two games to Jackson the Lookouts remain in first place in the second-half with a 7.0 game lead. After Tuesday's game, Chattanooga has 25 regular season games remaining in the 2017 season.

.

It was another Fernando Romero outing, which is normally a very good thing.

On this night, Romero had one of those clunkers that every pitcher experiences. He gave up single runs in the first and second innings before giving up four runs in the third.

He settled down and ended his night with two scoreless innings. In all, he gave up six runs on nine hits over five innings. He walked none and also struck out none.

Dereck Rodriguez made his second straight appearance out of the bullpen. He gave up three runs on seven hits in his three innings. He struck out three.

Todd Van Steensel dropped his season ERA to 1.45 with a scoreless ninth inning.

Jackson struck first, as they took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning courtesy of a Victory Reyes RBI double to right field. Jackson extended their lead 2-0 in the top of the second inning.

The mighty Generals offense exploded for four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.

Chattanooga got on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning when T.J. White reached base safely on a throwing error, which allowed Levi Michael to score on the play.

The Lookouts managed to cut the deficit in half when Max Murphy roped an RBI triple to right field. Edgar Corcino and White both scored on the triple from Murphy.

Jackson added some late inning insurance runs beginning in the top of the seventh inning when the ever dangerous Kevin Cron launched a two-run home run over the left center field wall, giving the Generals an 8-3 lead.

Jackson's ninth and final run of the game came via a line drive single from Frias. Dugan scored from second, to give the Generals a 9-3 lead.

Jackson starter, Alex Young (8-6, 4.00) earned the win, while Chattanoogastarter, Fernando Romero (11-7, 2.96) suffered the loss.

Chattanooga and Jackson will meet at AT&T Field, in the series finale on Tuesday, August 8th. The first pitch is set for 7:15 PM (ET).

RHP, Felix Jorge (9-2, 3.51) will get the start for the Chattanooga.Jackson will also elect to send a right hander to the mound, as Joel Payamps(5-5, 5.40) will make his fourteenth start of the season.

Keeping up with roster changes.

OF Corcino was sent back to the Lookouts on Monday. With former Lookout Zack Granite returning to the Red Wings from the Twins, and ex-Lookout Daniel Palka now healthy, it made sense to send Corcino to Chattanooga. Also, LaMonte Wade has been placed on the disabled list and is expected to return next week.

- The Twins have released RHP Raul Fernandez while transferring pitchers Yohan Pino and DJ Baxendale from Rochester to Chattanooga.

- As noted yesterday,Sam Clay was promoted from Ft. Myers to Chattanooga. In his first outing at Ft. Meyers, he gave up six earned runs in 2/3rd of an inning. Then he went 13 games (24.1 innings) without allowing a run. He then gave up one run in back-to-back games. Since then, he’s pitched in 20 games (31 innings) without allowing a run.

- The Chattanooga Lookouts aren’t the only team in the Twins farm system that is having success this season. The Fort Myers Miracle (High-A Affiliate), Elizabethton Twins (Rookie Affiliate) and the GCL Twins (Rookie Affiliate), are also currently ranked in first place in the Florida State League, Appalachian League, and the Gulf Coast League.
