Senator Bob Corker said Monday he is weighing whether or not to retire.

He stated, “I think everyone in the Volunteer State knows, as they did in 2012, that running for re-election has never been an automatic for me.”

He said he will announce his decision "at the appropriate time."

The former Chattanooga mayor is nearing the end of his current six-year Senate term.

Senator Corker had been considered a possible presidential candidate, but opted not to run.

His name has also been mentioned for governor of Tennessee as his friend, Bill Haslam, is finishing his last term.

It was reported that former White House strategist Steve Bannon is working to recruit conservative challengers for Senator Corker and others.
