Garry Allen Grimes, 63, born on August 18, 1954, to Edward and Betty Sue Grimes, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 23, surrounded by family.

Garry attended the Crossing Church where he was a member for 24 years and served on the council for many years. He worked at the Chattanooga Times Free Press first as a News in Education coordinator, then as a district manager. His passions included spending time with family and friends, fishing, and mission trips, but his biggest passion was serving the Lord and spreading the Gospel. Everyone who knew Garry knew he was a man of God. He not only talked the talk, but also walked the walk.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Debbie, of 26 years, his four children: Lucy, Garry, Rebecca, and Tim, step-mother Betty Grimes, brother Lamar (Sharon) Grimes, sister Kymberly (Gary) Kelly, step-siblings Richard (Sandy) Myers, Samuel (Donna) Myers, and Marilyn (Calvin) Wilson, five grandchildren, Joshua, Natalie, Autumn, Madisyn, and Sarah, and many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Betty Sue Grimes.

A Celebration of Garry’s life will be held at The Crossing Church on Friday, Jan. 26, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Terry Harris officiating. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 25, at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel from 4-8 p.m. and again on Friday, at the Crossings beginning at 10 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to House of Stephanas at 1005 Elaine Trail, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421, and designated “For Russia” in memory of Garry Grimes. All donations are tax deductible.
