Ernest Calvin Onks, Jr. passed away Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at his home in Dayton, Tennessee.

Ernie moved to Dayton from North Carolina. He was of the Methodist faith and worked as a design technician at ITW Dynatec for 25 years. He served in the US Marine Corps in Vietnam and the US Marine Corps Reserve with the rank of E-5 SGT. He received the National Defense Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Vietnam Service Medal w/3*, Good Conduct Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal w/device Rifle Sharpshooter during his military service. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Calvin Onks Sr. and Barbara Ray Lambert Onks; and grandson, Tucker Wiley Magaris.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Roberts Onks of Dayton; loving step-children, Cindy (John) Weyler, Melody Purser and John (Kim) Purser all of Dayton; brothers, Dennis (June) Onks of Bath Springs, Tn., Jerry (Debbie) Onks of Murfreesboro, Tn.; sisters-in-law, Mary Kirkpatrick of Ider, Al. and Lauren Onks of Smyrna, Tn.; brother-in-law, J.R. (Wanda) Roberts of Dayton, Tn.; grandchildren, Daniel (Brittany) and Christopher (Marcie) Weyler and Chloe, Jase and Logan Purser; great-grandchildren, Maddi, Audrey, Calleigh and Branch Weyler; and several nieces and nephews and special friends Jack and Rita Smith.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 6, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Coulter Garrison Funeral Home with Mr. Frank Zimmerman officiating. 

The family will receive friends Saturday, Oct. 6, from 4-6 p.m. 

Interment with military honors will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, your local hospice or your local animal shelter.
