The Bradley County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous complaints over the last couple of months involving the theft of mail. Thieves are targeting mailboxes with outgoing mail identified by the red flag raised on each mailbox.
During the holiday season money is often mailed in the form of checks and even cash as gifts. The public should refrain from mailing checks directly from home. It is not recommended to mail cash at any time.
The safest way to mail checks or important documents is to utilize the blue United States Postal Service mailboxes around town. The USPS also offers a service called Informed Delivery. This is a free program which sends notifications to one’s email letting he/she know what pieces of mail to expect in his/her mailbox on any certain day. To sign up for Informed Delivery, go to informeddelivery.usps.com.
The public should be on the look out for any vehicles suspicious in their community and more specifically, stealing mail.
If you have any information regarding the theft of mail contact the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Tip Line at 423 728-7336.
