James Humphreys
James Paul Humphreys, 82, of Cleveland, Tennessee, passed away on February 24, 2018.
Paul was born on Oct. 21, 1935, to the late Elmer and Lela Humphreys. Paul has lived here since 1992 and was a member of Delano Baptist Church. Paul was an animal lover as well as a coin and stamp collector. He loved history and was an avid reader. He was also very active in his Sunday School class at First Baptist. Paul was a very generous person and gave charitably to many different causes, often desiring no recognition. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a proud veteran of the United States Navy. Paul retired from the United States Postal Service, where he had worked his way up in the ranks as a trainer who trained managers and postmasters throughout the country.
In addition to his mother and father, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Glin Humphreys, Warren Humphreys, and Floyd Humphreys; three sisters: Minnis Humphreys, Rena Jones, and Jean Burns.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of 56 years, Linda Humphreys; sister Dot Eslinger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, at Companion Funeral Home at www.companionfunerals.com.
A celebration of life service will be held at the funeral home at 12:00pm following visitation. Interment will take place at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either First Baptist Church Manna Ministry or Delano Baptist Cemetery Fund.
